Biography[]

"Hello, Amanda..."
Amanda Young was a drug addict who had been kidnapped by the Jigsaw killer and put through a torture trap designed to generate a sense of self-value in her life. The trap involved a hinged head-piece linked to her jaw. She had one minute to find the key to unlock the device, or else it would hyper-extend her jaws and she would bleed to death. She found the key inside the corpse of a nearby victim and successfully escaped. Jigsaw, whose real name was John Kramer, then took Amanda under his wing and made her his apprentice. Amanda abducted other victims and assisted John in designing and applying the various traps.
After John is scammed out of money by Dr. Cecilia Pederson and her alleged "medical team" under the belief he will undergo an experimental procedure to cure him of cancer, Amanda assists John in abducting Valentina, Mateo, Gabriela and Cecilia after learning of their whereabouts from Mark Hoffman. Glimpses of the disagreements Amanda would have with John during Saw III are shown here when Amanda refuses to test Gabriela first over Mateo due to the sympathy she feels for Gabriela also being a drug addict. Amanda shows more humanity as well when she expresses concern and worry for John, who has resigned to accepting that he is going to die and crying out in agony after Cecilia kills Gabriela when she and Parker Sears are revealed to be a couple rather than Parker being a victim of the con as John and Amanda initially believed. Amanda is shackled and forced to watch as John and Carlos, a young boy who John had befriended in Mexico City, participate in the bloodboarding trap. After Cecilia and Parker become trapped upstairs, revealing that John and Amanda knew of Parker's identity the entire time, Amanda frees herself from the shackles and frees Carlos, covering his eyes as Cecilia and Parker begin to violently fight each other as only one of them can survive their trap. John, Carlos and Amanda escape as Cecilia watches them.
When John was in the final stages of brain cancer, Amanda abducted physician Lynn Denlon and placed an explosive collar upon her and forced her to operate on John. While Lynn worked diligently, she was unaware that her estranged husband, Jeff Denlon, was undergoing his own gauntlet of traps elsewhere in Jigsaw's lair. The entire ordeal was actually one massive test that Kramer was conducting to prove that Amanda would be suitable to carry on his life's work after he passed. However, whereas John always gave his victims the ability to successfully escape, Amanda's traps would kill its victim regardless of whether they completed the required tasks or not. In this regard, she failed John, and was considered a "murderer", which John detested.
In her mania, Amanda eventually turned against John and shot Lynn Denlon - against his ardent commands. Jeff Dennlon broke through into the medical room and then shot Amanda in the throat. She slowly bled out as Kramer, who was also moments away from death, explained how she failed him.
Amanda's actions are later revealed in Saw VI to have been a letter sent to her by Hoffman who was blackmailing her into killing Lynn Denlon by threatening to expose her being present with Cecil Adams the night he attacked Jill Tuck and caused her to have a miscarriage to John. This blackmail in turn caused Amanda to fail her test as well as get her killed, leaving Hoffman as the only choice to succeed John.

- ↑ The setting for the series is left deliberately ambiguous, but a scene in Saw V shows a character typing out Agent Strahm's phone number, which has a 212 area code. This is the area code for Manhattan. However, another scene shows a New Jersey license plate on Strahm's car, so the actual location of the series remains inconclusive.
