Alex Dupree was a minor character featured on the supernatural-themed ABC television series The Gates. He was played by actor Robert Pralgo (credited as Rob Pralgo) and appeared in the sixth episode of season one "Jurisdiction".

Biography[edit | edit source]

Alex Dupree was a resident of The Gates, an exclusive community catering to the upper class in Washington state. He was once married to a woman named Barbara Jansen and moved to The Gates around the year 2004. [1]

In the year 2010, Alex and Barbara's marriage began to fall apart, owing largely to Barbara's growing romantic interest in her female dress shop partner Gloria Bennett. By his own account, Barbara was a free spirit and Alex could no longer provide her with what she needed. He was still in love with her however and wanted to get her back. He followed her to a lounge she used to frequent called the Red Door. After Barbara left the lounge on a Wednesday evening, Alex followed after her, striking the car of a woman named Mrs. Davidson as he pulled out of the parking lot.

He trailed Barbara back to her business, the B & G Dress Shop and confronted her. The two argued with one another and as Alex grabbed her, Barbara fell, striking her head on a table. The blow proved fatal and Alex, scared, ran away.

Police chief Nick Monohan investigated the case and interviewed Alex on two separate occasions. By a stroke of luck, Mrs. Davidson reported her incidental hit and run to the police and Nick was able to use the Red Door security footage to place Alex at the restaurant on the same evening that Barbara visited it - the same night that she died. Nick returned to the Dupree estate and arrested him.

Notes & Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Initially, Barbara Jansen's partner and lover Gloria Bennett, a vampire, was Nick Monohan's prime suspect. When Barbara's body was discovered, there were two puncture wounds in the side of her neck. In truth, Gloria was the one who discovered her body and hoped to save her life by turning her into a vampire, but she was too late.
  • Lived on Terry Lane.

  1. The episode indicates that Barbara Jansen moved to The Gates six years prior to her death. Presumably, this is when Alex moved to The Gates as well.
